On Saturday morning, the church of St. Stephen of the Abyssinians, within the Vatican, received an unexpected visitor. The pontiff put his busy schedule on hold to pray his last goodbye to Miriam Woldu, a receptionist at Casa Santa Marta.
Pope Francis walked to the casket with a bouquet of white roses in his hands and prayed for the deceased, in a solemn and collected manner for about 20 minutes.
Then he dismissed some of the people that were present in the church before the funeral.
The Vatican receptionist was an Eritrean-born Italian citizen. She was 34-years-old and seven months pregnant. She was diabetic and died in her home nearly two weeks ago of natural causes.
