Despite what most might think, the life of a circus performer has certainly not lost its appeal in the twenty-first century. And for many multi-generational circus performers, like Alessia Dell'Acqua, its not just a job, its a lifestyle.

In fact, most performers from circus dynasties often marry each other and the Vassallo and  Dell'Acqua family is no exception to this rule.

'Let's just say that there is a sense of perseverance and passion that we possess... because at the end of the day. It's not just a job, its a way of life. You never really turn it off. It's not like you leave the office and when you go home you're done. The circus is continuous... Like the continuation of life.â?

Dell'Acqua is one of the administrators at the Rony Roller Circus in Rome. In addition to that title, she is also a skilled animal tamer.

Most recently, the Rony Roller Circus hosted a charity event for over 2,000 homeless migrants.  The charity event was organized by Pope Francis and Bishop Konrad Krajewski.

'It was something truly beautiful. It touched our hearts. Working in front of these people and being able to hear a little bit of their story's: 'I have no where to sleep and nothing to eat.' Today, Pope Francis made me wash, eat, and see the circus. It was beautiful, indeed.

This seventh-generation dynasty of performers have made history in the Italian circus scene since the late 1890s. The Vassallo family is heralded for their talent in the circus world: everything from equestrian, trapeze and contortionist acts.

Not surprisingly, their circus acts can be seen from around the globe, in parts of Europe, Asia and Northern Africa.
