Pope Francis celebrated Ash Wednesday at St. Peter's Basilica.
Card. Angelo Comastri was the person responsible for imposing the ashes on the Pope. With this action, the Church calls for conversion and penitence.
The ashes come from the palms that were burned from Palm Sunday of the previous year. ;
