Hundreds of people accompanied the relics of San Leopoldo Mandic and Padre Pio in the streets of Rome.
The Pope chose these two saints as examples of confessors during this Jubilee of Mercy and asked that the remains be exposed in St. Peter's Basilica.
In an atmosphere of extraordinary silence and devotion, dozens of pilgrims participated in the procession that made a first stop in St Peter's square.
Cardinal Angelo Comastri, Vicar General for the dioceses of Rome, gave a summation of the life of the two saints at St. Peter's square. He recalled that both fully lived the Beatitudes and through them many people encountered God's mercy.
By late afternoon, and again in procession, the bodies of both saints were transferred to St. Peter's Basilica, where they will stay until the 11th of February.
