John Finch is, by his own description, a regular guy from Texas. He likes to golf. He goes to church. He's been married for more than 20 years, and he's a father to three daughters.
But Finch has started a movement that shows even 'regularâ? people can inspire others and have an impact on the world.
'The Father Effectâ? is a short film that includes testimony from men who grew up without fathers, including Finch himself.

'The Father Effectâ?
'It's very much a film about the true struggle of growing up without a father and the impact that it has on a young man, on a boy, as a young adult, as a married man, as a father, husband. And what that really looks like.â?
The film has been translated into several languages. The original English version has received more than 40,000 views. The Spanish edition has more than tripled that number. He says he still receives emails from people inspired by the film's message.
Finch was struck by tragedy early in life, losing his father to suicide at age 11. He and his brothers were raised by a single mother, and the pain of the loss of his father stung him for most of his life.

'The Father Effectâ?
'God just took that and made me really start to go through this journey of healing and freedom. And eventually, I think as you see in the short film, I found forgiveness for my dad and it radically changed my life as a man, husband, and father.â?
The success of the short film enabled them to produce a 44 minute, made-for-TV version. Finch is also working on a memoir.
He said that his greatest message to other fathers is simple: Do not be afraid of failure, especially because no one is perfect.
