When Pope Francis stepped foot in the United States, he surprised and delighted many Americans by riding in a Fiat 500L. ;
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has now found a way to use that memory to help further the Pope's mission. They're holding an auction for one of the Pope's Fiats. All proceeds will go to charity.
The auction will take place on January 29th in Philadelphia. The money raised will go to ministries and missions within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, such as a Catholic hospice and special education schools.
The archdiocese suggested that they may auction off the Pope's other Fiat, as well. They won't be the first papal cars to go up for auction.
Pope John Paul II was gifted a Ferrari, and he auctioned it too, with proceeds going to survivors of the 2004 South Asian tsunami. And a Volkswagen Golf owned by Pope Benedict XVI when he was Cardinal Ratzinger appeared on eBay after his election.
