'It begins a time of the great forgiveness.â? That's what the Pope said about the Jubilee of Mercy as he opened the Holy Door in the Cathedral of Rome, Saint John Lateran.
POPE FRANCIS
'It begins a time of the great forgiveness. It is the Jubilee of Mercy. It is time to rediscover the presence of God and his fatherly tenderness. God does not love rigidity.â?
It marked the third time in two weeks that Pope Francis has opened a Holy Door. He wore this pink chasuble because it was the Sunday of 'Gaudete,â? which the Church had dedicated to joy. It's a joyful Sunday meant to celebrate that the return of God to Earth is now closer.
POPE FRANCIS
'In a historical context of great abuse and violence, especially by men of power, God knows that He will reign over his people, who would never leave them at the mercy of the arrogance of their leaders, and will free them from all anxiety.â?
The Holy Door was not only opened in the Roman Cathedral but in cathedrals throughout the world. That's because Pope Francis wants people in every corner of the globe to easily access divine mercy and forgiveness.
