Many know Catholic Relief Services from their work around the world delivering relief and services to those in need. But lesser known is the Catholic Relief Services Student Ambassadors, a vital force in supporting and enhancing the
mission of CRS in college campuses across the United States.
MORGAN GRUENEWALD
President, Catholic Relief Services Student Ambassadors, Villanova University
'Catholic Relief Services Ambassadors supports the mission of Catholic Relief Services, which is an international humanitarian and development agency that works in almost 100 countries overseas, focusing on development projects and disaster relief.â?
CRS Student Ambassadors, with chapters in over 70 campuses, play a vital role in informing their campus communities about the work of CRS through faith building events, fund-raising, advocacy initiatives, and education of fellow students.
This past year CRS Student Ambassadors at Villanova University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania have seen great success with their I Am Climate Change advocacy campaign, inspired by Pope Francis.
SAJID HOSSAIN
I am Climate Change Coordinator, CRS Student Ambassadors, Villanova University
'In Laudato si Pope Francis tells us that the United States as well as other developed countries really need to push towards raising awareness for this issue and acting on it very seriously because we are the main contributors to climate change.'
'So Pope Francis talks a lot about care for creation but not only that but love for human dignity and Catholic social teaching that really calls us to act on this issue. And because of it we have been doing campaigns during his visit actually were we have been signing letters to support the United Nations Green Climate fund.
'And throughout we have gotten almost 650 letters signed which is significant because that is a record in our campus programâ?.
In addition to their successful I am Climate Change Campaign, for the past three years CRS Ambassadors chapters have been responding to the Syrian and Iraqi refugee crisis by advocating, fund raising, and hosting prayer vigils on campuses as they try to educate those around them as well as create political change that will help those in need.
