During his Thursday morning homily at Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis explained that God's mercy is limitless. He added that it's so great he is able to love every person.

'We are all so nervous when something does not go to plan; we scream and shout, we are impatientâ?¦ He, however, says 'Calm down; yes, youâ??ve made a mistake but donâ??t worry, donâ??t be afraid. I forgive you. Give me your (sins).' This is what we mean when we repeat it in the Psalm: 'The Lord is merciful and great in love.' We are small. He has given us everything. He only asks for our miseries, our pettiness, our sins, to embrace us, to caress us.â?
The Pope concluded by inviting all Christians to learn about the mercy of God and then be more merciful themselves in the future.

The Holy Father based his homily on a passage from Isaiah in which we are told that God chose His people out of love. He explained that he chose them 'not because they were big and powerful but because they were the smallest and most wretched of allâ?.
He compared Godâ??s love to that of a mother or father when they speak to their child after he or she has woken after a nightmare. Just as our parents reassured us saying 'donâ??t be scared, Iâ??m hereâ?, so God says 'do not be afraid of your sins, I love you; I am here to forgive youâ?. 'This is the mercy of Godâ?, the Pope explained.
Pope Francis exemplified the extent of Godâ??s mercy by referring to the passage in Matthew in which Jesus says, 'Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you restâ?.
He went on to say 'we are all so nervous when something does not go to plan; we scream and shout, we are impatientâ?¦ He, however, says 'Calm down; yes, youâ??ve made a mistake but donâ??t worry, donâ??t be afraid. I forgive youâ?.
The Pope concluded by inviting those present to ask God to 'renew in all people faith in our Father and in his mercyâ?.
