Pope Francis held a meeting with members of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, which is concerned with countries of mission.

The first person to speak was Cardinal Fernando Filoni, prefect of the congregation, who was in Africa with the Pope just a few days before.

'He has given hope to a continent that deeply needs it.

Pope Francis also alluded to his trip to Africa, explaining that he had been witness to the difficulties that the people there face. Faced with that reality, he wants to refocus on the work of missionaries.

POPE FRANCIS
'I have noted that wherever there is need, there is almost always a presence of the Church willing to heal the wounds of those in need, which recognizes the wounded and the crucified body of Jesus. There are so many works of charity and human promotion! So many Good Samaritans work in the missions anonymously every day!

The Pope explained further that it's not the Church that makes the mission but instead the mission that makes the Church. He added that the mission is not an instrument but instead the beginning and the end.

He thanked them for their work and invited them to continue responding to the call of the poorestâ??and to keep spreading the Gospel.
