Thousands of pilgrims attended Pope Francis' Angelus prayer in St. Peter's Square, with some carrying posters calling for peace in the world.
The Pope asked everyone to pray for his journey to Kenya, Uganda, and the Central African Republic this Wednesday. And they did it right away.
POPE FRANCIS
'It is for these dear friends, and for me, a sign of closeness and love. Let us pray together to Our Lady to bless these beloved lands, so that there is peace and prosperity in them.â?
The Pope also reflected on the Feast of Christ the King, which was celebrated on Sunday. He explained that Jesus was a very different kind of king.
POPE FRANCIS
'Modern logic is based on ambition and competition, combat with the weapons of fear, blackmail, and the manipulation of consciences. The logic of the Gospel, which is the logic of Jesus, however, is expressed in humility and gratitude. He affirms silently but effectively with the power of truth.â?
The Pope explained that the key to understanding this type of rule is the death of Jesus on the Cross, an act of pure love.
POPE FRANCIS
'It is said, 'Jesus gave his life for the world.' It's the truth, but it's much more beautiful to say, 'Jesus has given his life for me.' And today, in the plaza, each one of us says from the heart, 'He has given his life for me,' to save us from our sins.â?
The Pope also recognized that in Barcelona 26 martyrs have been beatified. They were victims of religious persecution in the 1930s. The Pope said it serves as a reminder today to those 'in various parts of the world who are persecuted for their faith in Christ.â?
