'And the winner of the Dove Award is... Hidden Heroes by The Talleys written by Dixie Lynn Phillips and Sharon Phillips
Gospel songwriter Dixie Philips won Gospel Song of the Year at the 2015 Dove Awards for her song 'Hidden Heroes. It's a tribute to people in her church who care for family members who suffer from mental disabilities.
Philips believes these 'hidden heroes have a particularly strong influence on family.
''Hidden heroes' have a great impact on family in that they exemplify Jesus' heart. They have servants' hearts. They teach their families how to serve. They teach unconditional love, and they teach sacrifice. That helps mold little ones that are in their lives so they can see ways that they can serve Jesus too.
After the unexpected success of the song, she now hopes it will reach anyone who feels overlooked by the Church.
'We just never saw that the song would go anywhere else, but it struck the hearts of so many 'hidden heroes' that are overlooked and seem to be forgotten by the Church and by society. If it does have a global impact, I'm hoping that it has a global impact on the mother in Russia, and they might have a handicapped child, or maybe there's a spouse in Rome, Italy where she's taking care of her mate that has dementia, and that she will discover that she's not hidden by the father.
Phillips continues to write songs, some of which have already been picked up by national artists. She hopes to continue touching the hearts of groups who are often forgotten.
