November 2nd is the day that the Church dedicates to the deceased. It's also the day when the Pope visits the Vatican Grottoes. Many popes are interred there, such as John XXIII and Paul VI. Before the tomb of the latter Pope, Pope Francis made a notable stop to pray for a few moments.
Pope Paul VI has had one of the biggest influences on Pope Francis, thanks to documents like Evangelii Nuntiandi. He signed that apostolic exhortation about evangelization in December of 1975.
The Pope's visit to the tomb was simple and private. A few people attended the prayer he delivered for the dead.
The Vatican Grottoes are located between the Renaissance basilica and above Emperor Constantineâ??s 4th century basilica.
