When Benedict XVI traveled to the U.S back in 2008. It was an intense trip where he delivered 16 speeches during a seven day visit.
President George Bush, along with the first lady and one of his daughters, went to the air base to personally welcome him to the country.
The very next day, Benedict XVI visited the White House, which coincidentally marked his 81st birthday.

Even though there were light hearted moments, the Pope also addressed thorny issues, like abuse committed by priests. He then met with a group of victims and spoke about the issue directly with Bishops.

In Washington, D.C, the Pope celebrated a Mass in the National Stadium and he met with professors of Catholic universities and students.
In New York he visited a synagogue and also prayed with families who lost a loved one during the September 11th attacks. The Pope also spoke before the United Nations.
It was an intense trip. The last day of the visit, Benedict XVI looked visibly tired, as he celebrated a Mass in New York's Yankee Stadium.
