Pope Francis recalled the 70th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He explained that these acts still cause horror and devastation today, and that they should continue to serve as a warning to the world.
POPE FRANCIS
'It has become a symbol of the disproportionate destructive power of mankind when the progress of science and technology is distorted. It is a permanent warning to mankind to repudiate war and forever ban nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction.â?
The Pope used the anniversary as a call to action for people to seek peace and harmony. He also made a request for the whole world.
POPE FRANCIS
'From every corner one voice must rise: No to war! Yes to dialogue! Yes to peace! With war everyone always loses. The only way to win a war is to not fight one.â?
Looking to the other side of the world, Pope Francis also discussed the tension and violence that has terrorized El Salvador.
POPE FRANCIS
'I invite the dear people of El Salvador to keep hope and I urge everyone to pray that the land of the Blessed Oscar Romero will return to flowering justice and peace.â?
Before the Angelus, Pope Francis spoke about the gift of faith. He said that it wasn't meant to be private, but instead should be shared throughout the world.
