This Sunday Angelus marked the Pope's first public appearance after his trip to Latin America. Umbrellas covered St. Peter's Square, as pilgrims tried to get some shade, from Rome's intense summer heat.

POPE FRANCIS
'I see that you're all very brave, coming out here to the Square in this heat. Congrats!

After spending eight days in Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay, Pope Francis entrusted the fruits of the apostolic trip to Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas.

POPE FRANCIS
'Latin America venerates Our Lady of Guadalupe. To Her, I entrust the fruits of this unforgettable apostolic trip.â?

Reflecting on Sunday's Gospel readings, the Pope described Jesus as the Good Shepherd who leads by example. The Pope explained that Jesus sees His flock, not through the eyes of a doctor or psychologist, but rather through the eyes of the heart.

POPE FRANCIS
'These are the verbs of the Shepherd: Seeing, being compassionate and teaching. The first and second are always part of Jesus' attitude.â?

The Pope concluded by saying that the third element-that of teaching-is taught mainly by example. That, he said, is the best tool to evangelize the faith.
