This isn't your typical Vatican concert. Front row seats-usually reserved for presidents, royalty and the Church hierarchy were taken up by the poor and marginalized.
It was an event organized by the Pope's Almoner's office, where the homeless, poor, refugees and immigrants walked into the Vatican.
'It's one of the most beautiful things Pope Francis can carry out. It shows that we are all the same.â?
'It's beautiful and inside people are happy and ready to listen to the music.â?
Benefactors were also invited, but time around, those who are somewhat used to walking into the Vatican, took the back seats.
'From the poor to the well off. We're all here. It's a great example for everyone and besides I really like this type of music.â?
About 3,000 people attended the concert with music based on Dante Alighieri's 'The Divine Comedy.â? Israeli Director Daniel Oren led the concert with the Chorus of Rome's Diocese.
'The Church is made up of all social classes. From the poorest of the poor to the rich. We are all part of the Church.â?
This is one of many concrete initiatives the Pope has launched recently to reach out to the marginalized. From giving a tour of the Sistine Chapel to the needy to building shower stalls for the homeless.
Even though the Pope didn't attend the concert, he did meet with organizers a few days ahead to thank them for their efforts.
