Hip hop is not a genre typically associated with Christianity. Its biggest stars often rap about gangs, drugs, and money. But one young hip hop artist is trying to change the genre.
Cory Matthews Larmour, who goes by Cory Matthews, is a rapper from New York state. He hopes his style will change hip hopâ??and spread the Gospel.
After seeing his father DJ and his cousin rap, Cory tried writing rhymes himself. He has been doing it for years. The rapper's lyrics are aspirational and often reference God.
Larmour became religious after a friend was stabbed and killed. A Catholic, he now attends Mass and frequently performs for youth gatherings.
His debut album was called 'Unafraid.â? His next album, 'Boy Meets World,â? will be released this summer.
Like many popular artists, he uses social media to help grow his fan-base and spread his ideas. Tens of thousands of fans follow him on Instagram and Facebook.
Matthews does not identify as a Christian rapper. Rather, his music simply reflects the deep influence that Catholicism has had on his life.
