Persecuted Christians will play a major role in the Pope's meditations during the Stations of the Cross this year. Pope Francis will make mention of words from former Pakistani Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti. He was killed in his own country back in 2011 for being Christian.
Other issues will be mentioned, such as: the breakdown of the family; human trafficking; the death penalty; and child abuse.
The texts have been prepared by Monsignor Renato Corti, Bishop emeritus of the Italian diocese of Novara.
The 14 Stations of the Cross will also be influenced by the female presence in the Gospel, forgiveness, and God's love.
