For as long as Iraq has been in crisis, Pope Francis has been calling for peace and denouncing violence in the country.

'We will not forget them, we are close to them and we are praying that a stop be put to this intolerable violence of which they are victims.â?
To express his closeness, the Pope has sent another message in which he reminds the victims that he is praying for them.
He is particularly concerned about families of Christians and other minorities who have been expelled from Mosul and the Nineveh Plains in Iraq.
Pope Francis is praying that they may soon return to their homes. He said that they coexisted peacefully with other religious communities for centuries. This Easter, the Pope said, they are sharing the experience of unjust violence with Christ. As a donation, he has sent affected families the last collection from all of Rome's parishes last Sunday. Additionally, the Pope announced that Cardinal Fernando Filoni will return to Iraq as his special envoy.
Pope Francis also mentioned his concern for families northern Nigeria who have fallen victim to the terrorist group Boko Haram. They are receiving a donation as well.
