What reforms are being considered by the Vatican? On Thursday morning, Pope Francis opened a Consistory with roughly 125 Cardinals to discuss just that. Among the proposals is the creation of two new Vatican Congregations.
One would deal with Justice and Charity and the other with the Laity and the Family.

'Cardinals discussed the proposal of creating two new Congregations and why it would make sense- not only from an organizational standpoint, but also from a theological and spiritual point of view.â?
Currently the Vatican has nine Congregations and 12 Councils. Developing new Congregations would be a way to consolidate the councils within these two new Congregations.
The reforms that are being considered are many. From full transparency in Vatican Financial Departments, to the relationship between the State Department and other Curia departments. Also on the list is the drafting of a new Constitution and the complete spiritual formation of those who work in the Curia.

'The quality of their spirituality is key as well as the relationship between religious and the laity. Especially when we look at the connection they have with different Church dicasteries.â?
The meetings will continue on Thursday afternoon and then again on Friday. But as Fr. Lombardi explained, considering these reforms is quite complex.

'It's not just about writing the new Constitution, we also have to consider Canon Law and the universal laws of the Church. From here, we have to look at the different norms that establish the relationship between the Vatican Curia and different departments.â?
After this round of meetings, the Pope's advisory Council, also known as C9, will meet again in mid April to continue their work on reforms.
