German Cardinal Josef Becker has died in Rome, at the age of 86. ;
He was a theologian. Since the late 70's he served as a consultor for the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, where he worked closely with Benedict XVI. ;
He also taught at Rome's Gregorian University. He was made a Cardinal later in life, back in April 2012, under the pontificate of Benedict XVI. ;
In light of his death, Pope Francis sent a telegram to offer his condolences. ;
With this death, the Council of Cardinals now stands at 207, out of which 110 are eligible to vote in an eventual conclave. ;
Over the weekend though, the Pope will create new cardinals during a Consistory in the Vatican. ;
