After greetings and a prayer led by the Pope at the Vatican, the eighth meeting of the Council of Cardinals began. The group advises the Pope on Vatican reform. Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich, said hello in his native German.
'Your holiness, good morning.'
As coordinator of the group, Cardinal Maradiaga spoke and thanked the other cardinals.
The latest meeting will last three days and will continue the process of simplifying the Curia. Their goal is to reduce the size of the Vatican bureaucracy, which is currently comprised of more than 230 organizations and administrations.
The meeting will conclude next Wednesday. The Pope plans to meet with cardinals from around the world and inform them of the proposals to reform the Curia the next day.
