These Nigerians aren't fishing. Rather, they are fleeing their hometown, escaping the violence Boko Haram is raging against them.

The radical Islamic group, has forced thousands of people to flee from Nigeria into neighboring countries like Chad, Cameroun and Niger.

'We managed to escape and we ran towards the lake. We took a boat and started rowing. The men from Boko Haram were shooting at us the entire time. They even took a boat and followed us.

The recent wave of violence comes from fighting between Boko Haram and the Nigerian Army. Usually the victims are innocent women and children.

The result are refugee camps like these. The instability in Nigeria has resulted in nearly 1million people leaving their homes. According to UNICEF, in Chad alone, nearly 10,000 of people have arrived just in the month of January.
Those who were lucky enough to survive, face other challenges now, among them, the separation of their families and perhaps worst of all-the unknown.

'One of my children stayed behind with my husband. We didn't come together. We are here with people from my village who we escaped with. I am very worried. My heart is in pain. I don't know in what situation he is or if he's trapped or if he managed to escape.â?

While these families hope for the chance to go back home, groups like UNICEF are setting up these makeshift tents, while these refugees try to reclaim back their lives.
