When a journalist asked Pope Francis about birth control during an impromptu press conference on the papal plane, Pope Francis said contraception isn't the answer, but rather 'responsible parenthood.' He explained it with graphic words.
POPE FRANCIS
'Some think that, excuse my expression, that in order to be good Catholics they have to be like rabbits. No! Responsible parenthood!â?
Responsible parenthood, meaning Catholic couples, in good conscience should decide how many children they can raise. Through his words, the Pope defended natural planning methods. The most popular one is known as the Billings Ovulation Method.
He also talked about future travel plans. In September the Pope will visit the city of Philadelphia, New York and Washington D.C. But a trip to Mexico, will have to wait.
POPE FRANCIS
'The three cities are Philadelphia, for the World Meeting of Families. Then New York, I have the date already but I canâ??t remember. I will go visit the UN... and Washington.â?
He also denounced corruption, sharing how once back in Argentina he was offered roughly $400,000 dollars to help the poor. But in exchange, money laundering was involved.
POPE FRANCIS
'At that moment I thought about what I would do. Either I insult them and give them a kick where the sun never shines, or I could play the fool. I played the fool and said. 'Well here in the vicariate, we donâ??t have a bank account. You would have to make the deposit to the archdiocese and ask for a receipt.' And that was it. 'Oh, we didn't know,' they said. Then they left.â?
One of the passengers, Mexican journalist Valentina Alazraki, celebrated her birthday that day. So, a little impromptu celebration was held with the Vatican press corps and the Pope.
