Pope Francis met with the participants of the one day conference titled 'The Communion of the Church: Memory and hope for Haiti 5 years after the earthquake.â?
The Pope encouraged them to keep the person at the center of the rebuilding works in the country.
POPE FRANCIS
'So far, a lot has been done in rebuilding the country. However, we have to acknowledge that there's a lot that still needs to be done. Everything that has been done, and everything that God willing will be done, follows three principles: the human person, the ecclesial communion and the local Church.â?
Pope Francis explained that all the help prompted in the country by Christians shows that the Church is a 'great bodyâ? unified by charity.
POPE FRANCIS
'Charity is more authentic and incisive when it is lived in communion. Communion shows that charity isn't just about helping others, but that it also permeates all aspects of life and breaks down all those selfish barriers which prevent us from encountering one another.â?
Bishops of Haiti took part in the meeting, along with members of the Roman Curia and Latin American ambassadors to the Holy See.
Roughly 300,000 people died in the earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010. After five years, the recovery of the country is far from being over.
