It's not a popular country and it's definitely not a big one either. Andorra has a population of roughly 75,000. But it's home to the Shrine of Our Lady of Meritxell. It's a stop that's part of a Marian Route, that includes five Shrines in Spain, France and of course Andorra.
JAUME SERRA
Ambassador of Andorra to the Holy See
'It's very important, because it's newest addition to this Marian pilgrimage. For our country it's also very moving, because Our Lady of Meritxell is our Patroness and we feel a strong devotion to her.â?
This Romanesque Sanctuary was destroyed in 1972 and rebuilt a few years later. Pilgrims who visit it can enjoy both a religious and cultural experience.
JOAQUíN BELLIDO
Marian Route Association
'This new sanctuary is another good reason to take part in this pilgrimage. And it's also a good opportunity to see the country. All the sanctuaries, together, as an experience, offer pilgrims a very interesting trip.â?
The other four destinations include, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar in the Spanish city of Zaragoza. Also the Sanctuary of Torreciudad in Barbastro. Another is Our Lady of Montserrat near Barcelona. Then there's the Sanctuary of Lourdes in France. It's a route that was started only five years ago, but already more than 12 million people have made it a point to take part and to visit these five Marian Sanctuaries.
