It's not very common to see a Franciscan friar skateboarding, but for Fra Grabriel, it's business as usual.
He left it behind temporarily when he started his religious life. But a few years later, his superiors encouraged him to take on his hobby once again. Now he uses it as way to reach out to people and talk to them about God.
FRA GABRIEL CORTES
'God has so many ways of using people's talents to give Him glory. And when I still make use of this sport of skateboarding, I can help others to see the compatibility of exercising the body as well as the soul. As St. Francis says, we are always to preach the Gospel, and if necessary, sometimes use words. And so that's what I do.â?
Skateboarding is not the only gift this young friar has. Last summer he made this video, where he sings 'Salve Regina.' It was a way to show that his personal devotion to Our Lady and his passion for skateboarding, are not opposed to one another.
With those two passions, Fra Gabriel travels Australia's skateboarding parks, trying to bring people closer to God.
