It was an emotional meeting for Estela de Carlotto, president of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo of Argentina, as well as for her family.
'How are you, Francis? The Argentinian Pope! What a joy.â?
'Come in.â?
'Thank you. This is my grandson, Ignacio.â?
'How are you?â?
'It's a pleasure.â?
She met with Pope Francis accompanied by her grandson Ignacio Guido, who she found in August after a tirelessly searching for him for 36 years. The meeting lasted a half hour.
She then presented the rest of her family, which included children and grandchildren. There were 18 family members present.
The association of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo was born in Argentina with the goal of locating and returning children who disappeared during the dictatorship.
Ignacio Guido was stolen from Estela de Carlotto's daughter once he was born. According to the association, there may be an estimated 500 people who still do not know their real parents.
'We are going to live as God wants and may he give us long life. I now ask God for a longer life so that I can continue to hug all my grandchildren.â?
At the end of the meeting, the Pope praised Ignacio Guido for his courage in accepting the truth about his family.
'Thank you for the courage you have shown.â?
'No, I did nothing, it was them.â?
As of now, the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo have located 115 missing children.
