After the Pope's address this morning, Cardinal Peter Erdí¶ summarized the objective of the Synod in his initial report.

CARD. PETER ERDí?
Relator General of the Synod
'The challenge that the Synod must accept is to be able to propose once again to today's world, in many ways like in the early times of the Church, the appeal of the Christian message in respect to marriage and the family, underlining the joy they give. But, at the same time, to give true answers that are infused with charity.

He explained that these answers will be proposed for youth, for families, marriages that are broken or in difficulty and remarried people.

CARD. PETER ERDí?
Relator General of the Synod
'Divorced people who have remarried civilly belong to the Church. They must be accompanied by their pastors and have a right to it.

During a press briefing, Archbishop Bruno Forte, secretary of the Synod, stressed the importance of accompanying them.

ARCH. BRUNO FORTE
Special Secretary of the Synod
'It's about communicating what the faith of the Church is. The faith of the Church is not going to change, but rather communicated with our gaze placed on concrete and real people.

With this Synod, the Pope aims to have a clear view of the situation. In one year, another Synod will take place to propose solutions.

CARD. ANDRÉ VING-TROIS
Delegate President of the Synod
'There will be universal guidance and implementation decrees that we will make for concrete situations.

The Synod will conclude on October 19th with the beatification of Paul VI, who instituted the Synod  of Bishops. A ceremony that will most likely be attended by Benedict XVI.
