Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will attend Pope Francis' meeting with the elderly on Sunday September 28th at St. Peter's Square.

He will follow the first part of this unique gathering, when several participants will give their testimonies and speak to Pope Francis. He will not take part, however, at the Mass that is to be celebrated afterward.

Under the theme 'The Blessing of a Long Lifeâ?, Pope Francis has asked elderly people, and especially grandparents, to meet him at St. Peter's Square.

The Pope Emeritus has kept a low profile since his resignation back in February 2013. He has only appeared in public when Pope Francis has asked. The last event he was seen in public was at the canonization ceremony of Saints John Paul II and John XXIII.
