The Focolare Movement has voted in favor of continuity. The first big decision of the 500 delegates of the movement, who are celebrating their General Assembly in Rome, was to re-elect Maria Voce as president. It is a decision that was also officially approved by the Vatican. ;
Maria Voce is 77 years old. She is from Calabria, in Italy and in 2008, was elected as the first successor of Chiara Lubich, the founder of the Movement. Now, she will lead the Focolare Movement for another 6 years. ;
The Focolare Movement is an institution with the most lay people in the Catholic Church. It boasts some 2 million members, among them non-Catholics and even non-religious. Through its initiatives and institutions, they promote unity and fellowship among people, enlightened by the message of Jesus. ;
During their General Assembly, which concludes on September 28th, they will define their priorities for the coming years. And before returning home, they will meet with Pope Francis on the 26th.
