U.S Parishes to hold special collection for Iraqi Christians

Parishes throughout the U.S. will have a special collection to help persecuted Christians and other minorities in the Middle East. ;

The U.S Conference of Catholic Bishops announced that it will be either on the weekend of September 6th and 7th or the following weekend of September 13th and 14th. ;

Proceeds from the collection will be used for immediate humanitarian aid and for the long term reconstruction of the damaged Church in that region. ;

In light of the violence and persecution, the president of the U.S Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, wrote to President Obama to show his concern over the ongoing attacks Muslim extremists are carrying out against religious minorities. ;
