German Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes turned 80 years old today, reducing the number of cardinal electors to 114.
The cardinal is the president emeritus of the Pontifical Council 'Cor Unumâ?
He was created a cardinal by Benedict XVI on November 24, 2007 and participated in the Conclave that elected Pope Francis.
The Pope recently named Cardinal Cordes as his special envoy for the 450th anniversary of the founding of the Willibaldinum Seminary in Eichstí¤tt, Germany this October.
Cardinal Cordes will now pass to the group of cardinals non electors, who are 96 for a total of 210 in the College of Cardinals.
