The Focolare Movement is getting ready to elect its new President, who will head the Movement for the next six years. According to the rules, only a woman can be appointed President. Along with her, a copresident and General Council will be elected.
The Focolare General Assembly will be held in Rome from September 1st to September 28. Four hundred ninety four delegates from all over the world will discuss the guidelines that the Movement will follow in the near future.
Among the attendees of the gathering there are 15 representatives of other christian Churches and also people from different religions.
On September 26, two days before the closing of the Assembly, Pope Francis will meet with the group in the Vatican
The last General Assembly was held in July of 2008, three months after the death of the Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare Movement. Its current President is Italian Maria Voce.
