After meeting with Iraqi refugees who were forced out of their homes, Cardinal Fernando Filoni is now planning on traveling to Washington D.C.
He's planning on meeting with Patriarchs of the Eastern Church and with American Bishops to discuss the persecution of religious minorities and what can be done to help.
As the Pope's envoy to Iraq, Cardinal Filoni personally saw the suffering Christian minorities are going through. For a week, he talked to refugees, visited their camps and listened to first hand accounts of the persecution they endured.

'I think it's up to us now. Just like Pope Francis says, we have to take care of our brothers and sisters across the board.â?
Also, the Holy See's Permanent Observer before the United Nations, Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, said that additional initiatives are being considered in Geneva to help persecuted minorities.
The announcement of Filoni's visit comes days before the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch, Bechara Boutros Rai, meets with Pope Francis to discuss the situation of Christians in the Middle East.
