While the world's attention is centered on the increasing violence in Iraq, attacks against Christians continue in Nigeria. Since the beginning of August, Christians have been targeted twice.
The first attack carried out by Boko Haram happened during the invasion of Gwoza, a northeastern city located in Borno. According to World Watch Monitor, roughly 100 people were killed in the attack, where the majority of the population is Christian. ;
A few days earlier, a group of armed insurgents attacked a Church in Ungwar Poppo, a town in the state of Kaduna. The attackers fired shots on parishioners who were attending Mass. A parish security guard was killed and several others were left wounded in the attack.
Members of the Fulani tribe claimed responsibility for the attack. Local sources say that Boko Haram provided weapons to carry it out.
