After taking a month off, weekly general audiences are now back on the Pope's schedule. This time around, it was held inside, at the Vatican's Paul VI Hall, where thousands were ready to greet the Pope. As part of his catechesis, he talked about why it's important to pray the Beatitudes. He gave some practical advice along the way.

POPE FRANCIS
'In the first chapters of Matthew's Gospel, in Chapter 5, we find the Beatitudes. So, today or tomorrow, read them at home. Will you do it? Let's not forget the laws Jesus gives us. Will you do it? Thank you.â?

The Pope explained that even though the Beatitudes aren't as popular as the 10 Commandments, they lay out the foundation of happiness and compassion. He then recommended yet another Gospel passage.

POPE FRANCIS
'Read the Beatitudes and then follow up with an examination of conscience, as you read Matthew, Chapter 25. Every day! You'll say, I did this and I did that. It's good for you. It's something simple, yet concrete.â?

In light of the deadly 6.3 earthquake that struck the Chinese province of Yunnan last Sunday, the Pope also prayed for victims and their families. The quake killed at least 367 people, injuring more than 1880.

POPE FRANCIS
'I pray for the victims and their families. For the injured and for all those who lost their homes. May the Lord give them comfort, hope and solidarity in these trying times.â?

The Pope also honored the life of Paul VI, who passed away on August 6th, 1978.  Once he finished the general audience, the Pope took some time to personally greet the sick.
