Dozens of prelates and people that knew Cardinal Francesco Marchisano attended his funeral on Wednesday at St. Peter's Basilica.
Card. Angelo Sodano, dean of the College of Cardinals, presided the ceremony, joined by several bishops and archbishops.
During Mass, Pope Francis led the rites of the Final Commendation and the Valediction.
Card. Marchisano passed away on July 27, in Rome. He worked at the Roman Curia since 1956, mainly in areas dealing with the Church's cultural and art heritage.
The Pope highlighted his contributions to this field in a telegram of condolence, and noted his service to the Church.
Card. Marchisano passed away at the age of 85, and therefore, did not take part in the conclave to elect Pope Francis. With his death, the College of Cardinals decreased to 212 members, but the papal electors remain at 118 cardinals.
