A few weeks ago, the Vatican announced that the Pope would make a 'strictly privateâ? visit to Caserta to meet with a friend. But the local bishop insisted so much that the Pope planned a second visit to the city, within 48 hours.
The city of Caserta, south of Rome, will welcome Pope Francis on Saturday, July 26. It will a quick visit, lasting less than four hours, to celebrate the feast of St. Anne, the city's patroness.
At 3PM, Pope Francis will take off by helicopter from the Vatican. The flight will last only 45 minutes.
As soon as he lands, the Pope will meet with diocesan priests at the city's Italian Air Force school.
Two hours later, at 6PM, the Pope will preside Mass in front of the Royal Palace of Caserta. Organizers expect at least 200,000 people.
The Pope will return to the Vatican right after Mass ends. However, he will return to Caserta just two days later. This time, he will meet privately with Giovanni Traettino, an evangelical pastor and close friend of the Pope.
