Their mission is to stop the sale and use of narcotics around the globe...Pope Francis welcomed members of the International Drug Enforcement Conference to the Vatican, where he described drug addiction as an evil, that cannot be healed with another evil.

POPE FRANCIS
'The problem of drug use is not solved with drugs! Drug addiction is an evil, and with evil one cannot yield or compromise.

To say no to drugs, said the Pope, one must first say 'yes' to life, love, education and employment.

He then added that legalizing 'recreational drugs' to combat drug addiction is a counterproductive social experiment.

POPE FRANCIS
'Attempts, however limited, to legalize so-called 'recreational drugs', are not only highly questionable from a legislative standpoint, but they fail to produce the desired effects.â?

After expressing both 'grief' and 'concern' for the future of young people who fall into drug addiction, the Pope asked the conference, which brought together representatives from more than 100 countries, to collaborate internationally.

POPE FRANCIS
'A more effective coordination of anti-narcotics policies, better sharing of relevant information and the development of an operative strategy aimed at fighting the drug trade.â?

Before personally greeting some of the members, the Pope highlighted that the Church will not abandon those who suffer, which includes those who fall into the 'trap' of drug addiction.
