Joseph Ratzinger's contributions to Theology continue to have an impact in the field. One example is the Vatican's Joseph Ratzinger Foudantion, which each year gives a Ratzinger Prize, also described as the Nobel of Theology.
MSGR. GIUSEPPE SCOTTI
President, Joseph Ratzinger Foundation
'We award excellence, we award a lifetime of research and commitment to Theology. In other words, we award men and women who believe that speaking about God, that giving God to the world, is the greatest treasure we have.â?
This year, for the first time, the award will be given to a woman, French professor Anne-Marie Pelletier, an expert in femininity in religion. She will share it with a first-ever Polish recipient, Fr. Waldemar Chrostowski.
The Pope emeritus is in constant contact with the foundation which bears his name, and follows their work closely.
CARD. CAMILIO RUINI
Joseph Ratzinger Foundation
'The Pope emeritus is very discrete and allows us to choose the recipients. Even though, clearly, before making a decision, we always check with him first. Of course, he continues having an enormous interest in theological matters.â?
In addition to the award, the Foundation is busy promoting a college conference inspired by the teachings of Benedict XVI. It brings together delegates from over 100 universities around the world. This year, the conference will take place in the Colombian city of Medellin.
GERMAN CARDONA GUTIERREZ
Colombian Ambassador to the Holy See
'It's a pleasure to be here with you to present this event which, once again, recognizes and highlights the theological, academic and spiritual wealth of our respected Pope emeritus, whom we should always value for the strength of his values and the solidness of his arguments.â?
The Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Foundation was established in 2010. It aims to promote the study of the Pope emeritus' works and spirituality. To this day, he continues to be one of the most important theologians in the Church's modern history.
